Troubleshooting a Broken Refrigerator

01

Power

First thing to check is to ensure your fridge is getting power.  While it seems like common sense, you'd be surprised to hear how many times we've encountered power cords that were inadvertently unplugged.

02

Thermostat

Next thing to check is to see if the fridge and freezer thermostats are set to the right temperatures (should be at or below 40 degrees Fahrenheit for the fridge, and 0 degrees Fahrenheit for the freezer).

03

Vents

If not, check the back of both the inside and outside of the refrigerator and freezer compartments where the vents are to ensure there are no blockages or obstructions.

04

Condenser Coils

Check the coils under or behind the fridge to ensure they are clear of dust and debris.  Vacuum the area if necessary.

05

Evaporator Fan

Check the condenser fan (not all models have this) to make sure there isn't anything preventing the fan from spinning.  Unplug the fridge, clean the fan blades, and spin the fan by hand to see if it spins freely.  Plug the fridge back in to check if the fan is able to spin when the compressor is on.  If the fan isn't spinning, the motor may be broken and the fan may need to be replaced.
